Certified School Counselor & Administrator; Trauma & Crisis Specialist, Author, Advocate, Spoken Word Artist, Professional Development Trainer
Over the past ten years, Ms. Evonnda Fulton has made it her mission to uplift youth through various roles within one of the largest Illinois Public School Systems in the North Suburbs of Chicago. She currently operates a PreK-12 College and Career Readiness Coordinator and has held previous administrative and counseling roles, ranging from middle school to the collegiate level. Her past positions include Behavior Interventionist Counselor and Dean of a Middle School, Assistant House Principal, House Principal and Freshman Director of a High School, and Adjunct Counselor at a Local Community College.
At the start of her career, Ms. Fulton saw the use of zero-tolerance policies that upheld the negative effects of the systemic school-to-prison and school-to-grave pipeline. While some educators and administrators may write students off and label them as “troubled” or “delinquent”, Ms. Fulton sees opportunity. Having overcome her own trauma as a young girl, she understands the importance of assessing the whole child. Children are expected to successfully perform and socialize in school settings while carrying the weight of issues happening within their communities and homes. Ms. Fulton was fortunate enough to be exposed to and find refuge in writing poetry; she attributes her pen and pad to saving her from emotions that felt uncontrollable at the time. She believes that it is up to adults to act as a facilitator in finding the root causes of students disruptive behaviors.
Through her experiences, Ms. Fulton knew that she needed to continue to support juveniles within and beyond school walls. Most recently, she attained certification as a Trauma and Crisis Management Specialist and a Cultural Competency and Ethics Trainer. She offers trauma workshops to assist Educational Systems, Family and Children Service Offices, Law Enforcement and Judicial Agencies, i.e. court rooms. It is her goal to build trained trauma crisis teams in schools, among stakeholders, and within businesses. Ms. Fulton takes pride in her role as an advocate for students and is passionate about serving and helping underserved communities and student populations.
Ms. Fulton holds a Bachelor’s in Science from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in Workforce Education Development and Training (Human Resources), a Master of Science in Education from Western Illinois University in Counseling (Type 73), and a Certification in School Leadership (Type 75) from Concordia University. She is also a published Author. Her Spoken Word Book is titled Suppressed Thoughts = Spoken Word. You can purchase her book through Amazon or by emailing her at evonnda@evonndalynn.com
