What's Wrong With Being Black?

In the book Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You; Ibram X. Kendia says, “There will come a time when Americans will realize that the only thing wrong with Black people is that they think something is wrong with Black People.” In today’s world we still see the blatant racism towards black people. “They” are some of our white counterparts, “They” are some of us black people, “They” are the schools, “They” are the judicial system, “They” are some of us. If we raise a question in schools why are black students being disproportionately suspended or ask can we work on closing the achievement gap for our black students somehow that equates that there is reverse racism happening and we are only thinking about the black students; if we fight for justice for black men who get higher bonds and are sentenced harsher for the same identical crime as their counterparts somehow it gets taken out of context by insinuating we are supporting the crime they did instead of the inequality of the justice system; if we fight for equal pay and benefits for the same position and title as our counterparts somehow we are disgruntled, greedy and a negative employee, not that we are deserving of equal pay; if we protest for wrongful deaths at the hands of the police, somehow we are anti-police instead of anti-walking, driving, jogging, working, shopping, while black. It’s nothing wrong with being black; the only thing that’s wrong with being black is that we are constantly under attack and our unwillingness at times, at fighting back. #ahmaudarbery #runwithmaud #socialinjustice #proudtobeblack #Ibramxkendia #traumainformed #healingjournery #studentadvocate #speakup #dontbesilent
